By developing a highly advanced control system specially for Log Max heads, Log Mate 500 becomes the perfect match for getting the most out of all Log Max products and accessories. Running features such as Active Friction Control and Four Point Measuring natively on Log Mate or having the ability to test and control all I/O are just some of a long list of features Log Mate 500 has to offer.

 

Rugged hardware



Built using rugged hardware the Log Mate 500 will withstand rough outdoor environment. The computer is IP65 standard compliant and has a Solid State Drive eliminating moving parts. The brand new communication modules are all built according to the tough IP standards. Log Mate 500 works together with the new StanForD 2010 forest standards.

 

One module is mounted on the head, two in the cabin to transfer and receive data and power to the harvesting head. They all feature standard M12 and Deutsch contacts. All communications are made over a two channel CANbus system.

 

More than just a control system

As the computer is Windows based it allows the operator to install programs for example GPS and internet connection. Thanks to the system being Windows based it makes it easier to administrate and update/upgrade the Log Mate 500 system.

Log Mate communication modules

head module  

Log Mate Head Module


The Log Max head module take care of the I/O connections on the harvester head. This is the only component that needs to be installed in the harvestering head. It is mounted directly to the frame.

Log Mate Distribution Module


Log Mate Distribution Module is the central connection point on the system. This module interfaces all the other modules with each other. It also interfaces the Log Mate 500 system with the carrier machine.

Log Max Cabin Module is installed on harvesters or other carriers, such as excavators equipped with a Log Max harvesting head. This module is the I/O interface for the operator controls.

BUCKING

 

The Log Mate 500 system is equipped with an automatic bucking logic. The behavior of this logic is dependent on both the settings in the system as well as interactive commands made while bucking.

Diameter based bucking is the standard way of bucking in the Log Mate 500 system. This bucking uses 2 parameters for the bucking, a length and a minimum diameter. Each product can have multiple lengths with minimum diameters defined in a list. The bucking logic will use this list to buck the tree to the desired logs. When the stem is felled, the operator must select what product the first log of the stem should be. The bucking logic will retrieve the length and minimum diameter from the product length list. If the Auto length change is not set, the harvester head will just feed the stem to the length selected and cut the log. The minimum diameter will not be used.

Volume calculation

Across the world there are many ways to calculate the total volume of a log. The Log Mate 500 system uses the 5 standard ways defined in the StanForD 2010 standard.

Top measured volume

The top measured volume is the volume of a theoretical, straight cylinder. The cylinder has the same diameter in both ends. The diameter used in the calculation is the top end diameter of the log. The length of the cylinder is the length of the log.

Solid measured volume

The solid volume is the volume of the log calculated by dividing the log in 10cm long slices. Each slice mean volume is calculated by the mid measured volume method (see below). Finally all the volumes of the bits is summed together to give the total volume of the log.

Mid measured volume

The mid measured volume is the volume of a theoretical, straight cylinder. The cylinder has the same diameter in both ends. The diameter used in the calculation is the mid-point diameter of the log. The length of the cylinder is the length of the log.
